I can’t say that this is the direction I wanted the show to go at the beginning but I don’t dislike it.

正直最初の思い描いていた方向性とは違うけど嫌いじゃないね。

I wonder how the staff will manage to wrap everything properly. It would be such a shame to have an original anime like this one, visually stunning on top of that, with an improper ending due to all the production issues.

制作者たちが上手くまとめてくれるか気になるね。今回みたいなオリジナルアニメは残念だよなぁ、アニメーションはすばらしいのに制作問題によってあまりふさわしくない終わり方。

I think it will be insane if they somehow manage to wrap up the series in the next episode. Hopefully it works out and I have faith. I have a feeling that the girls or maybe just Ai will have to face Frill in the other world and defeat her so that they can stop her from interfering and pushing young girls into suicide.

どうにかして次週でこのシリーズをまとめ上げるのはおかしいよ。上手く解決するだろうと信じるよ。あと、アイと周りの子たちもフリルと向き合って戦わないといけないと思う。そしたら干渉してくるのを止めることができるし、女の子たちを自殺に追い込むこともないだろうに。

I think we will get an episode 13 a little later. The recap was unplanned. I think people are jumping the boat way too early.

おそらく13話はもうちょっと後になるだろうね、総集編は予定外だったし。でも、みんな観るのやめちゃうの早すぎだと思う。

A curious addition: himari (ひまり) is almost homophone to himawari (ヒマワリ「向日葵」, lit. “”sunflowers””). It may be interesting to make a comparison between Ai and Himari, but to me that’s a bit of a stretch.

気になるポイント：ひまりの名前が向日葵と同音異義語みたいな感じで似てて、アイと対照的で面白いけど、ちょっと無理あるかな。

hat the fuck, that was dark. Poor Rika for starters, and that backstory… But also the story is going in a whole other direction than what I expected, it’s much more… outlandish (?) now? I don’t dislike it per se but I’m not sure how I feel about it. There’s not much time left now so I do hope it sticks the landing.

まじで、暗すぎた。最初にリカの生い立ちは可哀想だし…。あと、全体的に話が思っていた以上に違う方向に向かっていってるかな。もっと奇妙な感じ？それ自体は嫌いじゃないけどどう感じるか分からないかな。もうあと少しで終わっちゃうから踏みとどまってほしいなぁ。

I don’t feel like the problem is that they tried to explain mystery with science fiction. The problem is that because of the time constraint the mystery just feels half-explained and half-mystery. Which is worse than both having it fully explained or fully mystery.

問題はサイエンスフィクションの謎を明かそうとしてることじゃないと思う。問題は時間に限りがあるがために謎が半分解き明かされて半分謎めいている状態になってることだよ。完全に解き明かされるのも完全謎なままであることよりも良くないよね。

Based on the first episode I hoped it was gonna be a sort of avant-garde, deeply psychological character drama, primarily focused on the relationship between Ai and Koito but it ended up being a lot more straight forward and quite a bit less intimate than I’d hoped. I still like it but it could’ve been much more I think.

一番最初のエピソードから、何となく革新的で深い心理的ドラマ、主にアイとコイトの友情についての話だと思ってたけどもっと単純で思っていたより親密な感じじゃなかったかな。まぁ全然すきなんだけどもっとあっても良かったな。

It’s kind of like the end of Darling in the Franxx where they introduce the concept of aliens trying to take over Earth in the last 4 episodes. This would have been better had they left it mysterious and artsy and talked about the healing of the 4 girls. They could have pulled it off too since this show is for adults who would be more inclined to understand/enjoy an artsy ending.

「ダーリン・イン・ザ・フランキス」の終わりみたいな感じだったね、エイリアンが地球を乗っ取ろうとする最後らへんのエピソード。ミステリアスさとか芸術的なところ、4人の女の子たちが良くなっていく内容があればもっと良かったね。あと、芸術的な終わりを楽しむ大人向けのアニメだしもっと上手くやれたと思うよ。

desperately hope the recap episode ends up not counting and we have two more episodes to wrap this up. Because between Mr. Sawaki’s deal, Koito’s suicide, Neiru’s sister, and now whatever the fuck is going on with Frill, there are way too many loose ends to satisfyingly wrap up in a single episode.

ほんと総集編をカウントせずにあと2話見れたらいいのに。沢木先生の問題、コイトの自殺、ネイルの妹、あとよく分からないフリルの問題とか、一話に上手くまとめれるかなり多くの未解決の問題があるよ。

The emotional roller-coasters that Life is Cider is giving us these last two episodes are pretty strong. Feeling depressed? Time to dance! I feel like there are going to be roundabout-like memes where it’ll be a sad scene and this ending just pops up

この最後の2エピソードで感情の浮き沈みがかなり強かったよ。気分が下がる感じ？踊って気分上げないとっ。多分悲しいシーンとか終わりがやってくるだろうなぁ、メメ的な感じで。

I should have learned from Madoka Magica. NEVER trust a cute-looking magical girl anime.

まどか☆マギカで学習すべきだったよ。見た目が可愛い魔法少女系アニメは絶対信用しないって。

Very good episode. It seems that Momoe “”closed her heart out of fear””, while Rika “”built walls out of hatred””. I’ve a feeling that Rika will do something really reckless. These girls need to talk to each other asap

すっごい良い回だったよ。モモエは恐れから心を閉ざして、一方でリカは恐れから壁を作った。リカが何か無茶なことする予感がする。彼女たちはお互いに話し合うできだよ。

The problem is not how Frill was made. The problem is they raised her like a sociopath, and then was shocked she became one.

問題はどうやってフリルが作られたかじゃないよ。問題は彼女を反社会的に育てて、そうなってしまったことだよ。

Frill is a very interesting antagonist. She reminds me of lain from SEL in many ways. She’s a naïve misguided girl, raised by two people unfit for parenting at the time. She clearly wishes to be a normal girl, but was discarded like trash by acca and ura.

フリルはすごい興味深い敵だよね。彼女は色んな意味でシリアルエクスペリメンツのレインを思い出させるよ。彼女はあまりふさわしくない親に育てられ、純粋で闇の世界に進んでいってしまうような女の子。彼女は明らかに普通の女の子でいたいと思っているけど、アカと裏アカにごみのように捨てられてるんだね。

I just can’t with this anime and its reccuring themes of death, my legs were tense under a blanket not from cold but anxiety…!

この死を繰り返すようなテーマのアニメは無理だよ、ブランケットの下で足が張っちゃったよ、寒さとかじゃなくて、ストレスで…！

The problem is that the Accas were trying to create “”the perfect little girl”” with “”the perfect ingredients”” and forgot everything nice, and this was the result. If they threw some chemical X in there Frill would be a bloody Powerpuff girl.

問題はアカは「完璧な少女」を「完璧な材料」で作ろうとして大切なところをすべて忘れてしまったという結果だよね。ケミカルエックスを入れてたらフリルはかなりパワパフガールになってるね。

Wait how did Frill force suicide on Acca’s daughter? His daughter was human right? She was his natural daughter that survived even though the mother died

ちょっと待って、フリルはどうやってアカの娘を自殺に追い込んだの？彼の娘は人間だったよね？彼女はお母さんが亡くなっても、生き残っていた実の娘だよ。

I feel like Himari had unchecked issues – including obviously, being compared to her mother frequently. Acca and Ura-Acca are pretty terrible parents, considering what they did with Frill (threw her away and didn’t explain to a mentally 3 year old why jealousy is bad) and then were using Himari as essentially a human happy pill.

ヒマリにも問題があったんじゃないかと思う、よく母親と比較されてたことも含めて。フリルにしたことを考えると、アカと裏アカはほんと最低な親だよ（彼女を捨てて、たった3歳の少女になぜ嫉妬が良くないか理由も教えてない）ただ、彼女を人間の欲望を満たす精神安定剤のように利用してただけ。

That would be the implication. Acca and Ura-Acca say they don’t know why, but they’re hardly the most attentive and emotionally attuned, and there’s already the obvious hint of her weird attraction to an adult. A reminder to pay attention and maintain a close relationship to your kids, basically

アカと裏アカは理由は分からないって言ってたけど、ほとんどフリルに気にかけてあげてなかったし、大人の気を引こうとする明らかな要因で、改めて気を付けるべきこと、子供との関係を保つべきだと思い出させてくれたね。

I think they just exploit insecurities teenage girls have by being super disturbing. So Frill went into Himaris dream with dot or hyphen and exploited her feelings for her uncle leading her suicide.

I don’t think it’s explained yet exactly how Frill does her magic, but the term that Acca and Ura-Acca keep throwing around is “”the Temptation of Death”” (死の誘惑).

That was quite something. I was disappointed that there was no follow up on Ai’s conversation with Mr. Sawaki. I did love the backstory of the Accas but I really wonder just hown they will wrap this up. We’ll probably lose Pinky next week and Leon either next week or in episode 13. Looking forward to the monster design for those scenes. Will the inevitable fight be in the dreamworld or in real life? What about Frill, Thanatos and Eros? So many questions. Two more episodes to go, hope we won’t have to wait too long for episode 13.

かなり面白くていい回だったよ。沢木先生とアイとの会話の詳しい詳細がなかったのは残念だったけど、アカたちの過去の話はすごく良かったよ、でも次でどうやって話をまとめるのかすごく気になるね。おそらくピンキーとレオンを次回で失うだろうね。モンスターのシーンが楽しみだよ。あの戦いって夢の世界で起こってるのかそれとも現実の世界？それとフリルのこともタナトスもエロスは？まだまだ疑問だらけ。終わりまであと2話だけど13話までそんなに待たされないといいけど。

I knew from the start that they would keep Koito’s death/Mr. Sawaki for the last episode, since that explanation won’t even need 15 minutes, and it did feel like the main plot after all.

やっぱり最初からコイトの死と沢木の話は最終話に取っとくんだと思ってたわ。話が全く出てこないからワンダーエッグのメインになる部分だと思ったよ。

My understanding is likely incorrect, but my understanding is that all the teenage suicides were caused by societal issues and not directly by Frill. As such, I think that Himari committed suicide since she got turned down by Ura-acca (societal issue of age gap related love?

私の理解あんまり正しくないと思うけど、確実なことは全ての若者の自殺は社会的な問題が原因でフリルによるものではないってことだと思う。ヒマリが（年の差の交際による問題によって）裏アカに振られたことで自殺したことみたいな。

I feel exhausted after watching this episode. They went through so much. I loved it though, made everything a little more clear and I do like this direction its going. Wish there were more episodes left though. I’m really rooting this stick the landing

今回見終わった後かなり疲れを感じたよ。彼らが色んなことを乗り越えてきて、そこは良い話だったし、話が前よりちょっと明らかになってきた感じでこの方向性悪くないよ。ただもっとあればよかったよ、このアニメを観る習慣に慣れてしまったしね。

God this show has been 10/10 the whole way but the way they are setting up the ending will either be epic or ruin everything

このアニメすべて10点中10点だったよ、ただ最後どうやって話を進めるか、全部台無しになるか素晴らしい終わり方になるかだね。

this is starting to sound more like A Trigger anime the more I look at events, mundane Slice of Life in between beautifully animated fight scenes with some great philosophy mixed in. all it needs is an ending where they fight in space.

このアニメ観れば観るほどだんだんとトリガーアニメのように感じてくるよ、戦いシーンに哲学っぽいのも入ってる中に平凡な日常を描く作品だね。そして、最終話に必要なのは戦いシーンだよ。

次回でこのシリーズを終わらせるのはあり得ないと思う。上手くいくことを願って信じるよ。彼女たちそれかアイだけかもしれないけどフリルを止めるために向き合って戦わないといけないんだと思う。

I don’t think Frill is causing every suicide. The Acca’s look at recent trends in suicide and determine Frill is responsible, implying to me that there was a distinct change in suicidal trends that they could explain with Frill.

フリルだけがすべての自殺を招いてるんだと思わないなぁ。アカが世の中で起こってる自殺について調査し、フリルの責任だと言っていたけど、実際最近の自殺はフリルを通してはっきりとした違いがあるんだと暗示してると思った。

That’s pretty crazy. Hope all will turn out well. It’s a wonderful project the team is bringing to life for us, but it’s always a shame if it ends up being at the expense of their well being.

かなりクレイジーだよ。最後全て解決されてほしいな。素晴らしい作品を生み出してくれてるけど、彼らの健康状態や労力の代償をもたらすのは残念だよね。

It’s a real shame what the people working on this production had to go through. Glad they are finally getting some rest now.

This is terrible. And it sucks that they know it but can’t really do anything about it. The entire landscape of the industry needs an overhaul. Hopefully more studios will adopt something like the KyoAni model.

I hope I never see anyone trying to claim that WEP’s animation got “”Lazy”” or that the production team stopped putting effort in because they notice the effects of the shows troubled production.

It’s wonderful to have something that is more important than your life’ –Shota Umehara This is fucked up, poor guy. WEP’s story is good and all that, but I still find it to be the perfect example of why not to make an anime series that exceeds what your studio is capable of.

One thing that still has me hooked on the “”Koito isn’t real”” is that conversation with Neiru where Neiru says “”even though she was a fake friend”” (嘘の友達でも). We also don’t know how Sawaki-sensei responded to Ai when she asked him why Koito killed herself, which was something I was hoping would get resolved in some way.

ネイルが「嘘の友達でも」って言っていたシーンの”コイトは本当じゃない”会話がいまだに引っかかってるんだよね。あと、アイがコイトが自殺した理由を沢木先生に聞いた時の返答も理解できなかったし、そこはどうにかして明らかにしてほしかったなぁ。

I really hate to admit it, but I have a bad feeling about Neiru…it’s interesting how we went from Momoe, to Rika, and skipped over Neiru to get to Ai. Couple that with the fact that she’s connected to Plati makes me uneasy…

認めたくないけど、ネイルには何かある予感がする。話がモモエからリカへ、ネイルを飛ばしてアイへ進んでいくのが気になった。彼女がプラティと関わてるのが複雑になってるけど。

I wonder if this version of Mr. Sawaki was an actual representation of him as a person or rather parallel Ai’s personal interpretation. They never really explained how the wonder killers work exactly.

あの沢木先生は実際の先生なのかそれともアイのパラレルワールドの先生なのかどっちだろう。どういう風にワンダーキラーが動いてるのか明確にされてないよね。

I LOVED how this episode finally gave us some insight into how Ai feels about her mom. She knows her mom is worried about her and her mom always has her back. So she’s okay her mom dates the teacher so she can have some happiness. Despite not having a big role her mom is obviously a major factor into who Ai is and always supports her. She’s a real one.

今回やっとアイがお母さんのことをどう思っていたか気持ちを知ることができて良かったよ。お母さんはアイをいつも心配してて、彼女の見方をしてるって分かってたんだね。だから、沢木先生と付き合うことも応援できるんだね。彼女のお母さんはこの話の中ではそれほど大きな存在ではないけれど、彼女が彼女でいることには大きな要因で、いつも彼女を支えていたんだよ。彼女はアイにとって本物なんだね。

It’s such a tiny little thing, but I really, really liked that when her mom notices she doesn’t want to go to school and asks Ai to help her with the food prep as an excuse for her to stay home, a little strand of mom’s hair falls forward to make her look more like Ai.

本当に小さなところだけど、アイのお母さんがアイが学校に行きたくないことｎ気づいて食事の手伝いといって家にいさせていたところとっても良くて好きだなぁ。あと彼女の前におろしたおさげがよりアイに似てるよね。

All the girls were incredible and I hope they go on to have great careers. All of them seemed pretty new

彼女たちはほんと素晴らしい子たちだし、良い人生を歩んでほしいなぁ。みんなかなり新しい感じに見えるよ。

This was the number one things I kept thinking about when my mind was starting to think about suicide a little more so when I heard her say it I wanted to cry so much but it’s 2 am and I didn’t want to wake anyone up

それが一番頭の中でずっと考え続けていることだよ。自殺することはそれ以上のことでアイがお母さんに会いたいて言ったときすごい泣きそうだったけど、午前2時で誰も起こしたくなかったから堪えたけどね。

They never really explained how the wonder killers work exactly. Yes they did, they are a representation of your trauma. That’s why they are all so scared of them, because they represent the ugly feeling you don’t want to see, they are real, they are not? doesn’t matter, the feelings are real to you.

全然ワンダーキラーが何なのか明らかになってなかったよね。ーうん、ちゃんと明らかになっていたよ、ワンダーキラーは彼女たちのトラウマだよ。だから、彼女たちはワンダーキラーをすごく恐れてたんだよ、だって、あれらは彼女たちが向き合いたくない酷い感情の塊で、本物か偽物か分からないけど、それは関係なくて、その感情は彼女たちにとって本物なんだよ。

If we’re lucky, we might even get a longer episode for the finale. The staff really deserves a break after allnthe work they put into this in spite of all the obstacles.

ラッキーだったら最後に長めのエピソードが見れるかもね。色んな障害があったけどそれにも関わらず製作者たちはこの作品にすべての力を注いでくれて、本当ゆっくり休んでもらいたいね。
